Vitali again conquered his nightmares,
putting them to rest.
This time it was Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola.
His second after his most recent comeback,
his first was Sam “The Nigerian Nightmare” Peter.
Chris previously unbeaten in 27 fights, was stopped at the
end of the 10th round by TKO when he failed to come
out for the 11th round.
Vitali’s record is now 38 wins and 2 losses
with 37 KOs. Vitali admitted being impressed with
Arreola.
“Arreola had his chance, he had a great performance and
I was very surprised, ” said Vitali.
“He had a great chin and after my right hook, many opponents
go to the floor but he still stayed up. Big respect.”
“All my left jabs he was very well prepared for.”
“It’s never easy. You have to be at your best,” said Vitali.
Arreola after the fight said “I worked my butt off to be the champion
but Vitali’s strong, he hits hard and I never wanted to quit. That’s never in me,
I wanted to go the full 12 rounds.”
Chris caught Vitali in the fourth round and started the fight with a lot of energy.
But except for a brief rally in the 8th round he rarely troubled Vitali.
“I couldn’t get to him, he was fighting the fight he was supposed to fight.
He ran when he was supposed to and I just couldn’t get to him.”
“Whatever I did he found a way to counteract that. He found a way to
win and I found a way to lose.”
Still Arreola made Vitali move around the ring with his pressure.
He tested Vitali more than the two former World Champions
Vitali fought since his comeback. Great fights make or break
fighters. Chris more than proved he deserved his number one
ranking as a contender.
