Wladimir KlitschKO will face unbeaten challenger Alexander Povetkin (19-0, 14 KO’s).
Povetkin is already in the United States training with Teddy Atlas for Povetkin’s
September 11th or18th title bout against IBF and WBO heavyweight champion
Wladimir (54-3, 48 KO’s) at the Commerzbank-Arena, in Frankfurt, Gemany.
This is going to be the toughest fight of Povetkin’s career, as he’s taking on
Wladimir whom many people consider to be the best in the heavyweight division
right now. Povetkin, only 6’2”, will be giving up 4 ½” inches to the 6’6 ½” Wladimir
and will have to try and find a way to deal with Wladimir’s height and reach advantage.
Atlas will likely be training Povetkin to stay low, to get under Wladimir’s jab and to get
near enough to get his shots in fast before Wladimir can tie him up.

Povetkin hasn’t fought a top fighter in the heavyweight division for two years since
winning the IBF heavyweight elimination tourney in 2008. Povetkin has been fighting
strictly second tier heavyweights since then while waiting his turn to challenge for the
heavyweight title.

This fight matches up two former Olympic Gold Medalists. Wladimir, 34, captured the
Gold Medal in the Super heavyweight division in the 1996 Olympics while fighting for
the Ukrainian Olympic team. Povetkin captured the Gold Medal in the heavyweight division
in the 2004 Olympics while a member of the Russian Olympic squad. At 6’2”, Povetkin is a
medium sized heavyweight taking on one of the biggest heavyweights in the division.

HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg has already said he won’t buy this fight. Showtime
is interested in televising same-day taped coverage of Klitschko-Povetkin from Germany
on Sept. 18 to pair with the possible Juan Manuel Lopez-Rafael Marquez featherweight title
bout from Las Vegas, but there is a problem.

The problem is that the Commerzbank-Arena stadium that K2 promotions intends to put
the fight on in won’t be available on the 18th due to German soccer league schedules. If the
stadium is available on the 11th showtime won’t be able to televise the fight. This would then
likely mean that the fight could only be seen pay-per-view in the USA.

What happened to David Haye? He vigorously called out Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko for about
the past two years with some of the most childish antics ever seen. The brothers have always
been willing to fight him and have legitimately offered to fight him at least three times. Maybe
more… but, each time, Haye clucked and ran way, including just a couple of weeks before a
fight with Wladimir that had already been scheduled. Even after Wladimir went on his own
recent media campaign and returned fire at him, daring and begging Haye to fight him,
Haye clucked and punked out again.

Haye claimed to be holding out for the best deal. The most recent offer to David was for
a fall fight against Wladimir. It was presented to Haye with the deal he had asked for
a 50-50 revenue split with Klitschko’s K2 Promotions holding no future options. Haye tried to
backout of the deal, saying he should keep the British television money for himself, then Wladimir
would get the German television money with the rest of the pot being divided evenly. Yeah, Wow,
but that’s not 50-50. Putting all the money into the pot and then splitting it is 50-50. Apparently,
Haye and Adam Booth, his manager are using Don King math.
So whether David clucks and runs, quacks and ducks, or barks like a chiwawa and cowers he
is still evading a fight with both KlitschKO brothers.
