Wladimir’s K2 promotions is now negotiating with Peter’s promoter Top Rank to make a
deal for what would be a rematch of Wlad and Sam’s September 2005 matchup. Wlad won
that fight by unamimous decision but the bout had a lot of fireworks. Unlike Povetkin and Haye
who seemed to have caught the bird flu (flew) cluckin and duckin their fights with Wladimir, Sam
has proven to be a fighter. Alexander Povetkin failed to show up for Monday’s press conference
or return a signed contract. He was then dropped from the top 10 by the IBF and permission was
given to K2 promotions to contact the number 2 ranked fighter Samuel Peter.
Peter is 34-3, 27 KOs, Wladimir 54-3, 48 KOs. This rematch is intriguing because Peter knocked
Wlad down 3 times in the fight. George Foreman who was comentating for HBO said at the time
that if there were a rematch he wanted to be ringside for it. Wladimir and his K2 promotions
manager Bernd Boente both think the fight is a great matchup. Certainly there are a lot more
people interested in that fight than in the Povetkin fight.
Peter’s manager Ivaylo Gotzev says they are eager for another opportunity against KlitschKO.
Peter is already training in Big Bear California. Gotzev said “The IBF has done the right thing
and we are negotiating a deal. I expect it to go a lot smoother and a lot quicker than the
previous negotiation Klitschko had with Povetkin because we actually want the fight. This is
a very big fight for the German population and we’re going to make it a very big fight for the
heavyweight fans around the world.”

“You have an exciting matchup that has already proven to be a competitive one. I still get people
asking me how Samuel lost when he knocked the guy down three times. We are going to finish what
we started in September 2005. This year, it will be a September to remember.”

Sam’s promoter is Top Rank Promotions’ CEO, Bob Arum. Abel Sachez is training him now and
says Sam has learned from his mistakes. Arum thinks that negotiations on the money for the
fight could be finalized today.
